Flavio Copes counted 22 MCP servers in Cursor: 10 in ~/.cursor/mcp.json and 12 via 8 plugins, adding up to more than 300 tools. He uses Astro docs and Cloudflare docs daily. Context7, Playwright, X, Paddle (read-only) and Convex each do one job. He built his own cloudflare-domains MCP with a $20 cap and an approval form.
The GitHub MCP is rarely used because the gh CLI wins. The non-docs Cloudflare MCPs go unused because wrangler does the same. Resend, Railway, Supabase, Replit, tldraw, Dodo, Stitch and Polar sit idle. In his words: "Half of this list should go".
MCPs pile up quietly through plugins. Counting them, and noticing which have a CLI equivalent, is the cheapest audit there is.
List your MCPs next to what you used this week, and disconnect the idle ones. If you build your own, add a spend cap and an approval step.
